Small Animal Services | Equine Services Small Animal ServicesAnnual wellness examsWe recommend yearly comprehensive physical exams, internal parasite testing, and appropriate vaccinations. Yearly comprehensive physical exams allow for early detection and identification of potential problems. The yearly exam is the foundation of quality preventive medicine. AcupunctureWe offer acupuncture as an alternative therapy to traditional Western veterinary medicine. The value of acupuncture can be appreciated particularly in the older patient. Acupuncture is well recognized as an alternative pain relief modality and vitality stimulator. Some conditions that respond favorably to acupuncture are, arthritis, nerve damage, diarrhea, impaction colic and lameness. EndoscopyWith the use of an endoscope, we are able to visualize problems your pet might be having in the nasal cavity and upper GI tract. Some foreign objects can also be removed with an endoscope, eliminating the need for invasive surgery. LaboratoryWe are able to do most of our lab work in house so you will know your pet’s results within the hour. If we have to send out any special tests or cultures to a lab, we generally have results within one to two days. PharmacyWe carry a wide variety of medications in our pharmacy. If your pet has a need for a special or compounded medication we will order it for you. Close contact with pharmaceutical representatives keeps us up to date with the most recent advances in pharmaceutical science. We will be happy to fill prescriptions provided a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship exists. RadiologyAll radiology is done in house and you will have results immediately. Radiographs help to diagnose a wide variety of problems including foreign bodies, cardiovascular disease, and musculo-skeletal disorders. SurgeryWe perform all routine surgeries such as spays and neuters, soft tissue surgery, and orthopedic surgery. We are happy to refer you to a board certified surgery specialist if your animal needs an in depth surgery. Our surgery suite is equipped with a heated surgery table to maintain your pet’s body temperature during surgery. AnesthesiaYour animal will be anesthetized with safe up to date anesthetics and monitored by a trained licensed veterinary technician. We have the highest quality anesthetic monitoring system to help us ensure your pets health while anesthetized. We continually monitor your pets blood oxygen level, blood pressure, ECG, heart rate, and respiration rate. Dental CareRegular dental care is very important for the health of your pet. During a routine dental, we clean the teeth with an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar buildup. Then, the teeth are polished to create a smooth surface on the tooth to reduce the buildup of tartar in the future. We can also apply Oravet and send an at home care kit of Oravet to slow down the accumulation of tartar so your pet will be able to go longer between dental cleanings. If your pet needs more in depth dental care such as tooth extractions or oral surgery, we are equipped to perform those procedures as well. Equine ServicesAdvanced Equine DentistryRegular dentistry is very important for the health of your horse. We have some of the most advanced floating equipment available, thus are able to offer the most advanced dentistry. We recommend yearly dental exams on all horses especially horses being ridden regularly. The earlier yearly dentistry is performed the better as it is easier to correct problems earlier in life than later. Some problems may even be eliminated if caught early enough. If your horse needs more in depth dental care such as tooth extractions or oral surgery, we are equipped to perform those procedures as well. The following equine dental services provide comfort as well as proper oral function. 1.) Incisor reduction/realignment 2.) Correction of wave mouth, ramps, and beaks 3.) Reduction of overbearing molars Annual VaccinationsWe recommend the following annual immunizations for horses: * Eastern and Western Encephalitis and Tetanus Toxoid * Influenza and Rhinopneumonitis * Rabies * West Nile Virus * Strangles The following annual equine immunizations we consider to be optional: * Potomac Horse Fever * Pneumabort-K EndoscopyWith use of an endoscope we are able to visualize problems your horse might be having in his/her airway, nasal cavity, urinary tract, and upper GI tract and more accurately treat those problems. Some of the diseases include laryngeal paralysis, nasal foreign body/disease, and urinary calculi. AcupunctureWe also offer acupuncture as an alternative to traditional Western medicine. In some cases, acupuncture may be of benefit both diagnostically and therapeutically when Western medicine fails to produce expected results. RadiologyWe routinely perform radiographs on lameness exams, pre-purchase exams, and soft tissue injuries. We are equipped with portable radiograph equipment; however, better diagnostic quality radiographs can usually be produced inside the hospital setting. UltrasonographyUltrasonography has become the best and most precise early determination for pregnancy in horses. Also, it is a valuble tool for determining healthy pregnancies and presence of twins. Tendon injuries and healing progress can also be diagnosed and monitored with ultrasound. SurgeryWe perform all routine surgeries such as castrations, patellar ligament stippling or desmotomy, stringhalt correction, and other soft tissue surgery. Lameness and Prepurchase ExamsLameness is common in horses and can be difficult to diagnose at times. We perform a variety of exams and services to properly determine the source of the lameness and the proper treatment. Pre-purchase exams can be very important for persons buying a horse. We try to customize each pre-purchase exam to fit the prospective buyer’s needs. |
